What is cocaine?
Cocaine is a very addictive drug that is made out of the leaves of the coca plant. Cocaine belongs to the drug group called stimulants. Stimulants are a drug type that speeds up the activity of the central nervous system affecting messages to and from the brain.
Types of cocaine
There are 3 forms of cocaine:
1. Cocaine hydrochloride: a fine, white, crystal powder. It is often mixed with cornstarch, talcum powder, flour or dangerous chemicals. It is usually snorted but can also be injected, rubbed into gums or added to food or drink.
2. Freebase: a white powder that has less impurity. It is usually smoked.
3. Crack: crystals that are white, cream or transparent with a pink or yellow tinge. Crack is usually smoked.
